Cookies and storage
Last updated 26 September 2026
FreeCourses.App uses one cookie, to keep you logged in, and saves one setting in your browser, your light or dark mode choice. There are no analytics, advertising, social media or other third-party cookies.
What we store on your device
| Name | Type | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
kc_session | Cookie, strictly necessary | Keeps you logged in after you enter your password, so your progress saves as you learn. It holds a signed profile id, never your password, and page scripts can't read it. | 180 days, or until you log out |
kc-theme | Browser local storage, preference | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us. It's only saved if you use the light/dark switch. | Until you clear your browser data |
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may also set a strictly necessary security cookie in some circumstances, for example to tell real visitors from automated attacks. It isn't used to track you across sites.
Why there's no cookie banner
Privacy laws such as the EU and UK ePrivacy rules require consent for non-essential cookies. Everything we use is either strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for or a preference you set yourself, so no consent banner is needed. If we ever add optional cookies, such as analytics, we'll ask first and update this page.
Your choices
You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings. If you block the login cookie you can still read course pages, but you won't be able to log in or save progress. Logging out removes the login cookie.
More about how we handle information is in our privacy policy.
